OUR HISTORY
updating
The Evangelical Congregational Denomination is a Wesleyan-Armenian denomination. It was officially established in 1922 after existence under other denominational names for over 100 years. The denomination was born as a result of a need to minister to Dutch-speaking communities in Pennsylvania and has spread to more than 7 states and over 8 countries.

The Findlay Evangelical Congregational Church is the result of a merger of two congregations, Trinity E. C. and Grace E. C.

The Grace E.C. sanctuary was built on W. Sandusky Street in Findlay, Ohio in 1893 and joined the E.C. denomination in 1924. The Trinity E.C. Church began in 1895, as "Ruth Chapel", located first on E. Hobart St. in Findlay and then later on S. Main Street. In 1929 a lot was purchased on E. Wallace Street called "Community Baptist". The old building was moved to a location across the street from the present building, and services were held in that building until the present church was built in the spring of 1930. In 1930 the church was called "Community Tabernacle", then "Trinity E.C." in 1951. In December of that same year, the members voted to join the Evangelical Congregational denomination.

In 1967, the members of Grace and Trinity voted to merge. The Grace building was sold and the new congregation met in the Trinity building, with members so inclined, as charter members of the new church. The name, Findlay Evangelical Congregation, was voted on by the members. The first combined service was held in October 1968.

A new educational unit was added to the church in 1969. Findlay church at this time had a membership of 106. A new bus ministry was started in November of 1973 with three buses in operation during all services. The pastor was Rev. Gerald Davison.
